Hi, my name is Damjana. I started writing this blog in July 2009 as I discovered the blogosphere and decided to share my own new creations. I always liked eating healthy food, like home-baked bread (my mum and me are best at this), muesli, yoghurt, home-baked cakes and biscuits (as I like eating them, I also like baking them), roasted potatoes, pancakes, mlecni mocnik, apples.
Wholesome food is the one that brings the body all the nutrients it needs or that is not extra deprived of vitamins and other nutrients. I like using wholewheat flour, grains like millet, oat flakes, rice, corn.. apples from the garden, vegetables from the garden (actually I’m not very fond of vegetables as I’ve eaten too much salad so far in my life).. I don’t like bread that tastes like nothing or foamy bread, no, I prefer ordinary, crunchy one. With corn flour to give it a nicer smell and maybe with various seeds to make it richer.
I totally forgot about oatmeal and to be honest I only had it a couple of times till I started blogging. It’s not popular here and I only know it from abroad. When I discovered food blogs, I immediately noticed how much oatmeal is eaten as breakfast! I thought ‘well, that’d be a perfect food to try’. So I did. And started blogging too.
Oatmeal was not the only new discovery…there was more. Tofu pudding, brownie batter pancakes, world’s best scramble, tons of different kinds of bread, vegan cookies…I knew I wanted to try this.
I never wanted to turn vegan though I’ve considered myself vegetarian for long time so far. I restarted eating meat, but I don’t miss it, in fact I prefer not to eat it. So my meals are usually vegetarian (well, I sometimes use tuna if that changes anything).
I do have issues with food too. If I get a good food, I’d eat much of it, I wouldn’t stop when I’m full. Actually I’d feel ‘hungry’ for that very food. I also change my meals often, or patterns what to eat. I like skipping lunch because it doesn’t bring me so much pleasure as breakfast. I like snacks instead, like cookies, cakes, salty snacks (not always wholesome, I know but body wishes them too). That’s why sometimes I have to deal with cravings, ask myself how to eat less food and how to eat balanced meals. Yeah, noone’s perfect and I also don’t want to obsess with it too much on my blog. I’d rather try some new foods I like and share them.
It took me a while thinking how to name my blog, I finally decided to call i Damjana Likes it Wholesome. Wholesome is not a notion which would be hard to achieve. In fact we have a big vegetable garden at home with lots of fresh tomatoes, beans, carrots, onions, … and a fruit garden with apple trees, pear trees, plum trees. Our fields glow from barley, wheat, corn, potatoes and other goodies for our happy tummies and for the animals. Before I go too much in detail, I’m going to briefly present the story of the 29-year-old Slovenian foodie – in pictures.
As a little child I loved dwarfs and played with dolls (This “Minka” doll soon got bold because I cut off her hair but it didn’t grow back. Hm, I wondered why not.)

At the age of 11 I baked my first cake for my brother’s birthday.

I love adventure parks. Look at those petrified faces during the “free fall”!

I like getting lost in the mountains (just a joke; going to the mountains and walking up-hill is fun, climbing as well). On this pic I’m breathing French air.

And doing sports! This was the finish of a 40km trekking in Ljubljana, our capital.

Happy after finishing the marathon (for the 3rd time officially).

Eating yummy foods, often prepared by myself, like these ones:

My favorite meal is breakfast.
I like listening to music, watching TV or videos, reading good books, relaxing, working in the garden.
I love super tiny bodies which are still healthy, like at this two pictures:

Enough about me…and a good-bye hug!

LYa!

Hi Damjana–
Thanks so much for your comment on my blog! You asked about the blender–I think you could use a regular blender for the snacks, but you’d have to divide the mixture into smaller parts and work with each one separately. Maybe into fourths? Then put them all together in one big bowl and mix in the extra grains. It will take a bit more time and patience, but it will definitely work that way!

Hi there! Thank you for visiting my blog and sharing your tips for saving on groceries! Those are some great ideas!
Thanks for visiting my website and your comments about the yogurt. I’ve never tried it with whole milk (because of the calories) but I’m thinking that would be absolutely delicious. Do you ever add any flavorings or sweeteners?
Thank you for commenting on my wholesome chocolate chunk muffins.
You have a nice blog!
